AI Visibility Tracking Tools: A 2026 Comparison Guide
Published: 2 August 2026 · GEONI Team
This guide deliberately gives you no ranking — because the people writing it also sell in this market. A comparison that puts its author at number one is not a comparison, it is an advertisement. Instead you get three things: what these tools actually measure, seven criteria for telling them apart, and a five-minute test you can run today without buying anything.
What these tools measure
An AI visibility tool asks AI engines the questions your buyers ask, and records four things:
- Were you mentioned? Did your brand appear in the answer at all?
- How were you described? Right category, right product, right country — or confused with something else?
- Who was recommended instead? Which competitors showed up in your place?
- Which sources were cited? Where did the engine build its answer from?
This is where it differs from rank tracking. In SEO, being fourth of ten still earns traffic. In an AI answer, you are either present or you do not exist. What is measured is not position but presence.
The category splits into four groups
In the table below, every description is taken from the tool's own official site (read on 2 August 2026). Only the “focus” column is our reading.
| Tool | Its own description (from its official site) | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Profound | “Helps brands gain visibility in AI-generated answers.” | Pure AI search, enterprise |
| Peec AI | “AI search analytics for marketing teams — brand performance across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini.” | Pure AI search, team-oriented |
| Otterly.ai | “Track brand mentions and website citations for ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.” | Pure AI search + AI Overview |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | “Map your full AI funnel across 6 AI tools; 210M+ search-backed prompts.” | Module inside an SEO suite |
| Nightwatch | “Rank tracking across 107,000+ locations, unified with AI visibility in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.” | Module inside an SEO suite |
| Frase | “The content operating system for AI search — SEO, GEO and AEO in one loop.” | Content production + a score |
| GEONI | “Measure how visible your brand, name or site is inside AI engines.” | Pure AI visibility, English + Turkish |
Note: Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit page did not respond to our request, so we did not quote its own description here. We do not quote a page we have not read.
The grouping decides your purchase:
- Pure AI search tools give depth: prompt-level breakdowns, source analysis, competitive share. They sit alongside an SEO tool you already have.
- Modules inside SEO suites give one invoice and one dashboard. Depth is usually lower — AI visibility is not the product's main job.
- Content platforms optimise for producing rather than measuring; the score is a by-product of the writing.
Seven criteria for telling them apart
Ignore the marketing page and look at the data the tool produces. When you open a trial, ask these seven questions:
- How many engines does it genuinely query? “Supports ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity” does not mean all four run on every scan. Does the report break results down engine by engine?
- Who writes the prompts? A canned prompt list is fast, but it is not the question your customer asks. Can you add your own?
- Does it show the sources? “78% visibility” on its own produces no action. Without seeing which pages the engine built its answer from, you cannot know what to fix.
- Does it pull competitors out of the answers? Tracking a competitor list you typed in is easy. The valuable part is catching the name that appears in the answer even though you never listed it.
- Is every measurement logged? Which prompt, which date, which engine, which raw answer. Without that record a score cannot be argued with — and a score you cannot argue with cannot be managed.
- Does it separate language and country? The same question asked in English and in another language produces different answers. Measuring one language and calling it “your visibility” is an incomplete measurement.
- Does the pricing model fit your usage? Monthly subscriptions are expensive if you measure once a month; pay-as-you-go gets expensive if you track daily. The model has to match the shape of the need.
Where does GEONI sit?
Held to the same honesty: GEONI is on the pure AI visibility side. It does not offer classic SEO tooling (backlink analysis, keyword volume, technical audits) and does not intend to. It queries five engines in parallel, extracts competitors from the answers, lists the cited sources, measures English and Turkish separately, and runs on pay-as-you-go credits.
Google AI Overview: since 2 August 2026, GEONI also runs the same category questions it sends to chat engines against real Google Search, measuring three things — whether the AI summary box appeared, whether your brand is inside it, and which sources it was built from. Because the same question is measured on two surfaces, the results are comparable.
What it still does not do: position tracking inside the AI summary, and daily monitoring. GEONI measures per scan. If tracking your position inside the box on a daily basis is your priority, a tool built around that will serve you better.
Without buying anything: your own five-minute test
You can establish a baseline today, for free:
- Write one category question your customer would genuinely ask. Not “what is my brand” — “what is the best X service for small businesses?”
- Ask the same question to three different engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) on the same day.
- Write down the names, in order. Where are you? Are you there at all?
- Write down the sources underneath the answer. Do you appear on any of them?
- A week later, repeat the same question. What changed?
This test does not give you a dashboard, it gives you the truth: whose name comes out of the engines' mouths in your category. Whether you need a tool at all is a decision you can make afterwards. What tools add is not the measurement itself — it is continuity, repeatability and comparability.
Frequently asked questions
What does an AI visibility tracking tool do?
It repeatedly asks AI engines the questions real buyers ask, and records whether your brand appears, how it is described, which competitors are recommended instead, and which sources were cited. It measures presence inside an answer, not a position in a list.
How do I choose one?
Seven criteria: engines genuinely queried, your own prompts, visible sources, competitors extracted from answers, logged measurements, language/country separation, and a pricing model that matches your usage.
Can I measure it myself?
Roughly, yes — ask one category question to three engines on the same day, note the names and sources, repeat a week later. Tools add continuity and comparability, not the measurement itself.
Is AI Overview tracking the same as AI engine tracking?
No. One asks a chat interface; the other watches the AI summary box on a Google results page, which is a SERP measurement. Different surfaces, and neither replaces the other.
Why does this guide not rank the tools?
Because its author sells in this market. A comparison that puts its own tool first serves the seller, not the reader. Giving you the criteria and leaving the decision to you is both more honest and more useful.
